In 2013, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe took a big step toward economic diversification when it purchased two large hotels in St. Paul, Minnesota: the Crowne Plaza Riverfront and the DoubleTree by Hilton.

Having successfully operated the casino hotels for many years, this move built on an existing area of expertise, giving the tribe an exciting new revenue source.

In October 2015, MLCV announced the opening of the prestigious InterContinental® Saint Paul Riverfront hotel, ushering in a new era of luxury for Minnesota’s vibrant capital city. The InterContinental® Saint Paul Riverfront hotel is an InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) property that showcases mid-century modern design and décor. The hotel’s 410 fully renovated guestrooms and suites offer remarkable views of the Mississippi River and downtown Saint Paul skyline. The elegance and glamour that the InterContinental brand has been renowned for since the first hotel opened in 1946 is evident in this multi-million dollar renovation.

The InterContinental is also home to a ‘modern mid-century’ restaurant called Citizen Supper Club. This restaurant offers guests an impressive lineup of midcentury cocktails, wine, beer and spirits at the bar, as well as an inspired menu of crafted cuisine.

The DoubleTree by Hilton is home to the Rival House Sporting Parlour – MLCV’s first off-reservation restaurant.

In 2014, Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures also continued to grow in the hospitality space with the purchase of the 236-room Embassy Suites in Oklahoma City.

In November 2015, MLCV announced it expanded its hospitality footprint with the purchase of the DoubleTree by Hilton Minneapolis Park Place Hotel in St. Louis Park, Minn. The hotel marks the fourth major hotel asset purchased by MLCV in the past three years.

The 297-room DoubleTree by Hilton Minneapolis Park Place is a turn-key investment for Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures and a strategic expansion of its holdings in the Greater MSP market.

In May of 2015, MLCV completed it’s Eddy’s Resort development project. The new resort features 64 rooms, 1 Parlour Suite, a number of two- and three-room cabins, The Launch Bar & Grill, a marina and retail/bait shop.

On April 6, 2016 MLCV purchased Big Sandy Lodge and Resort in McGregor, Minn.

MLCV’s Community Development approach calls for acquisitions that allow the ability to expand the local business economy in all three districts of the Mille Lacs Band reservation. This acquisition signified the first-ever, largest scale invest in District II of the Mille Lacs Band.

The decision to acquire Big Sandy Lake Lodge & Resort was made based on its strong performance and its unique position as a premiere up-north destination resort on the Big Sandy watershed.
